A 360 view: a unique way to look at your unique body

At Rita and Phill, we analyze your body shape using a 360 degree approach. This is unique to the average articles you’ve probably read online. The standard method is to look at your body profile from the front - but this gives only a 180 degree understanding of your silhouette. The missing piece is what your profile looks like from the side. Recognizing that a woman can be a rectangle shape from the front and an apple shape from the side helps us to create skirts that are truly a perfect fit for each woman’s unique body shape. This is only one of the many steps that we take when creating your custom skirt.

In the page below, we have analyzed your measurements and body images to determine your body shape. We then suggest a few ways to style your custom skirt to fit with different occasions. We hope you enjoy this personal lookbook, and please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.

What is an apple-rectangle body shape?

Women with apple-rectangle body shapes are a combination of both an apple and a rectangle shape.  The traditional definition of an apple body shape is that the shoulders are wider than the hips, with full busts.  Apple shapes tend to have broader shoulders and a smaller bottom, and have some fullness around their mid-sections.  This definition fits your shape in most aspects, except for the mid-section.  From your mid-section downward, your body shape is more like a rectangle shape, which is defined as having a waist and hips that are equally aligned with little waist definition.

This combination is quite common in women who are physically fit.  A common concern for women with apple-rectangle body shapes is that this silhouette looks disproportionate, with the top half much larger than the bottom half.  The goal is to create curvature in the right places and the key to doing this is to break up your silhouette - select items more suited for an apple shape on the top and items for rectangle shapes on the bottom.

Fashion tips for apple body shapes

TOPS

Apple body shapes should wear tops that are fitted just right. Tops that are too tight start looking too provocative (unless you are going out, in which case, flaunt it!). And tops that are too loose will add more volume, making you look bigger than you actually are. Also avoid volume-creating details such as ruffles.

TOP LENGTHS

Any item going on your top half (e.g. shirts, blouses, jackets, vest, etc.) should fall at or below your hip bone, to draw attention to the smaller part of your body.

CREATING BALANCE

Highlight your bottom half with fitted skirts or peplum skirts. For peplums, it’s better to select a peplum skirt over a peplum top. Peplum tops tend to be extremely fitted, causing your chest to appear bigger and bulkier.

AVOID LAYERS

Wearing many layers will add bulk to your upper body. Stick with simple blouses, jackets and accessories.

DRESSES

Dresses should be fitted, but not too bodycon. A-line bottoms are great for creating volume - just make sure the fabric has a bit of structure. A fabric that isn’t too flimsy, that has a bit of body, will help create volume and give you a more proportional hourglass silhouette. Avoid sheath dresses as the excess volume on the bottom half will drown out your butt, making you look even more straight on the bottom.

PANTS

Select pant styles that will help to create volume for your bottom half such as flared, boot leg, or wide leg. Straight body shapes have many options when it comes to where their bottoms should sit. Low and mid-waist have a neutral effect on rectangle body shapes and waistlines at your natural waist will help to create the look of a small waist. To enhance your rear end, choose pants with detailing such as pockets, pleats and subtle patterns.

4 different ways to pair your custom skirt

Casual

Pencil skirts aren’t just for the office anymore. Pair your Lillian custom skirt with a cute top and a comfortable pair of sandals or flats and you’re ready to take on the day. Complement the outfit with a couple accessories such as a headband and bracelets to add some flare. Necklaces are great accessories too. We suggest sticking with thin and simple pieces to draw less attention to your bust.

Your Lillian custom skirt is great even outside of the office because our fully enclosed silky lining ensures you will be comfortable all day long. Since the lining fabric is sewn onto the main fabric, you will never have to reach up your skirt to pull down bunched up fabric again. The skirt will remain as comfortable as the moment you put it on.

Business casual

Whether you work in a conservative or business casual office, you can’t go wrong with a classic pencil skirt as the base for your outfit. Pair your Lillian custom skirt with a jacket that sits at or below your waist and cinches at the waist to elongate your torso and create the illusion of a more defined waistline.

The fit of your Lillian custom skirt is designed to provide you with a professional and sleek overall look and also to maintain your curves for a feminine silhouette. By making your skirt to your measurements and adding our signature enhancing seam, we ensure the skirt will fit perfectly.

Brunch

Your Lillian custom skirt makes it easy to throw together a cute and comfortable outfit for a morning of fun with your friends and family. Pair your custom skirt with a fun blouse that has a medium neckline and shows off your beautiful arms. Tucking the blouse into your waistband will create a defined waistline and a curvier silhouette.

The classic shape of your Lillian custom skirt makes it easy to mix and match with anything in your wardrobe. Every outfit is enhanced with a pencil skirt that accentuates your body shape.

Date night

Turn some heads with your Lillian custom skirt by pairing it with a form-fitting top that has a soft drape to accentuate your bust. Add an edgy jacket and a killer pair of heels and you’re ready for a great night on the town.

Whether it’s a first date or 10th anniversary dinner, look elegant and classy in your Lillian custom skirt. Our proprietary pattern system creates a feminine silhouette by minimizing your waistline and enhancing the curvature of your butt.

Customizations you can do for your next skirt

Colorful lining fabrics

Beautiful both inside and out! Our lining fabrics are made of soft satin blends and come in a variety of vibrant colors. Traditional store bought skirts mostly come with a black lining or no lining at all. We provide you with different options so you can add a bit of your own personality to your custom skirts.

Rita and Phill fun fact: You’ll notice that our lining fabrics are extremely soft to the touch. This is because we do not use traditional lining fabrics, which can be quite dry and scratchy, with little to no stretch. Our lining fabrics are made from fabrics that are traditionally used for blouses and tops - meaning they are high quality fabrics that are smooth and very comfortable. Slip into a bit of luxury every morning!

Customizable length

Customize your skirt length to fit your height, or to create new looks for different occasions. We use our proprietary system to calculate the best length for you based on your height. If you would like a longer or short length (e.g. mini skirt, ankle length skirt, etc) we can easily make those adjustments for you. Simply measure down from the waist to your desired length and email us that measurement. All your body measurements are added to our database, so you will only have to go through the process once. If you have any questions or need any help with taking your measurements, just let us know!
