What is a pear body shape?

Women with pear body shapes have hips that are wider than their shoulders, defined waistlines, larger thighs and full bottoms. Pear shapes have bustlines that are smaller than their hips. A common concern among women with pear body shapes is looking bottom-heavy. When finding clothes for pear figures, the goal is to balance out the difference between the smaller top half with the curvier bottom half. The trick is to highlight the daintier torso in order to even out the overall proportions.

Fashion tips for pear body shapes

CINCHED WAIST

Accentuate your small waist with belts. Look for tops, sweaters and jackets that can be cinched with a sash or belted. This simple trick draws attention away from your hips, and instead, highlights the smallest part of your figure.

NECKLINES

Look for necklines that highlight your shoulders such as scoop necks, boat necks, and off-the-shoulder tops. Pick necklines that also draw attention to your bust such as sweetheart necklines. Pulling attention to your shoulders minimizes your hips and creates a more proportional body shape.

TOP LENGTHS

Any item going on your top half (shirts, blouses, jackets, vest, etc.) should end either above or below the widest point of your hips. The border between your shirt and bottom tends to draw the eye’s attention. By having the shirt end at a smaller part of your body, you create the illusion of an overall smaller silhouette.

LAYERS

Balance out your smaller top half by adding different layers to your outfit. Try layering tank tops, shirts and jackets or cardigans to create more visual interest to your torso.

PANTS

Select pants that are flared or straight leg. They will help to create equalized volume for your bottom half. Skinny jeans and pants will emphasize your hips and rear-end (which may not be a bad thing, depending on the occasion). For a minimizing effect, a pant leg that is equal to or slightly wider than the calf and ankle area will give you a more balanced silhouette.

4 different ways to pair your skirt

Casual

Pencil skirts aren’t just for the office anymore. Pair your Rita and Phill custom skirts with a cute top and a comfortable pair of sandals or wedges and you’re ready to take on the day. Complement the outfit with a couple accessories such as a necklace or hat to add some flare.

Your custom skirts are great even outside of the office because our fully enclosed silky lining ensures you will be comfortable all day long. Since the lining fabric is sewn onto the main fabric, you will never have to reach up your skirt to pull down bunched up fabric again. The skirts will remain as comfortable as the moment you put it on.

Business casual

Whether you work in a conservative or business casual office, you can’t go wrong with a classic pencil skirt as the base for your outfit. Pair your Rita and Phill custom skirts with a jacket with structured shoulders and cinches in at the waist to broaden the appearance of your dainty upper body and enhance your small waistline. This will create a more balanced silhouette.

The fit of your skirts are designed to provide you with a professional and sleek overall look and also to maintain your curves for a feminine silhouette. By making your skirts to your measurements and adding our signature enhancing seam, we ensure the skirts will fit perfectly.

Brunch

Your Rita and Phill custom skirts makes it easy to throw together a cute and comfortable outfit for a morning of fun with your friends and family. Pair your skirts with a fun blouse that accentuates your bust and waistline. Look for a blouse with gentle ruffles, pockets, or draping and tuck it into your skirt. This will add volume to your top torso and pull attention to your waist, the smallest part of your body.

The classic shape of your skirts makes it easy to mix and match with anything in your wardrobe. Every outfit is enhanced with a pencil skirt that accentuates your body shape.

Date night

Turn some heads with your Rita and Phill custom skirts by pairing them with a top that accentuates your shoulders and bust such as a strappy or halter top. Add a statement jacket and a killer pair of heels and you’re ready for a great night on the town.

Whether it’s a first date or 10th anniversary dinner, look elegant and classy in your Rita and Phill custom skirts. Our proprietary pattern system creates a feminine silhouette by minimizing your waistline and enhancing the curvature of your butt.

Customizations you can do for your next skirt

Colorful lining fabrics

Beautiful both inside and out! Our lining fabrics are made of soft satin blends and come in a variety of vibrant colors. Traditional store bought skirts mostly come with a black lining or no lining at all. We provide you with different options so you can add a bit of your own personality to your custom skirts.

Rita and Phill fun fact: You’ll notice that our lining fabrics are extremely soft to the touch. This is because we do not use traditional lining fabrics, which can be quite dry and scratchy, with little to no stretch. Our lining fabrics are made from fabrics that are traditionally used for blouses and tops - meaning they are high quality fabrics that are smooth and very comfortable. Slip into a bit of luxury every morning!

Customizable length

Customize your skirt length to fit your height, or to create new looks for different occasions. We use our proprietary system to calculate the best length for you based on your height. If you would like a longer or short length (e.g. mini skirt, ankle length skirt, etc) we can easily make those adjustments for you. Simply measure down from the waist to your desired length and email us that measurement. All your body measurements are added to our database, so you will only have to go through the process once. If you have any questions or need any help with taking your measurements, just let us know!
